1. Dental Crowns

A dental crown is a cap or covering that is placed over a damaged or decayed tooth to restore its shape, size, strength, and appearance. Crowns are typically made from materials like porcelain, ceramic, metal alloys, or a combination of materials. The process of getting a dental crown usually involves the following steps:

Examination and Preparation :

Dr. Vikas examines the affected tooth and takes X-rays to assess the extent of damage and check if a crown is the appropriate solution. If a crown is deemed necessary, Dr. Vikas will prepare the tooth by removing any decay and shaping it to accommodate the crown.

Impression :

An impression of the prepared tooth is taken to create a custom-made crown that fits perfectly over the tooth.

Temporary Crown :

In some cases, a temporary crown may be placed on the tooth while the permanent crown is being made in a dental laboratory.

Placement of the Permanent Crown :

Once the permanent crown is ready, Dr. Vikas Gupta removes the temporary crown (if present) and cements the permanent crown onto the prepared tooth.

Dental crowns can protect weak or cracked teeth, restore broken or severely worn-down teeth, cover dental implants, and improve the appearance of discolored or misshapen teeth.

2. Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is a prosthetic device used to replace one or more missing teeth. It consists of one or more artificial teeth (pontics) held in place by dental crowns on the adjacent natural teeth or dental implants. The process of getting a dental bridge typically involves the following steps:

Preparation of Abutment Teeth :

The teeth on either side of the gap (where the missing tooth or teeth used to be) are prepared to receive dental crowns.

Impression :

Similar to the process for dental crowns, an impression of the prepared teeth and the gap is taken to create a custom-made dental bridge.

Temporary Bridge :

While the permanent bridge is being fabricated in a dental laboratory, a temporary bridge may be placed to protect the exposed teeth and gums.

Placement of the Permanent Bridge :

Once the permanent bridge is ready, Dr. Vikas Gupta removes the temporary bridge (if present) and cements the permanent bridge in place, using the dental crowns on the abutment teeth for support.

Dental bridges can restore the ability to chew and speak properly, maintain facial shape, distribute biting forces, and enhance the appearance of your smile.

Both dental crowns and bridges are essential restorative procedures that aim to improve oral health, functionality, and aesthetics. If you believe you may need a dental crown or bridge, it’s best to schedule an appointment with Dr. Vikas Gupta.
